I was worried since Fukuoka was within the typhoon's perimeter yesterday. Fortunately, the typhoon has gone and the Oiyama was held. I went to watch this festival for the first time even though I've lived in Fukuoka for 22 years. Since it starts at 5am, I set the alarm for 3 in the morning.
福岡は昨日まで台風に吹かれていたので、どうなることかと思いましたが、ラッキーにも台風は過ぎ去り、無事追い山は行われました。この博多の一大行事、22年間福岡に住んでいながら、実際に観に行ったのは今回が初めてです。というのも、始まるのが早朝５時、そのために３時に目覚まし時計をセットしました。
I'm helping an exchange student from China for the summer cource at my college. Today, I went to see the festival with her.
中国からうちの大学に６週間のサマーコースで来ている女の子のチューターをしています。今日はその子と一緒に観に行きました。
At this early in the morning, such a bunch of people get up just to see the Omikoshi. That made the feeling over the festival run high. Omikoshi is "portable shirine" in English but I guess people cheer for Hakata rather than worship the god.
この時間帯に、こんなに多くの人が起き出して御神輿を眺めるために集まるなんて、普通じゃない感じが祭り感を高めていました。御神輿って英語ではPortable Shrineのようですが（笑）、神様を崇めるためにというよりは、博多（の象徴）の応援に来てるって感じでしょうか。
