買い物、食事、どちらも目的というわけではなく、夜のバスに乗りたい！アドベンチャーしたい！という衝動的な理由で。モールの本屋さんをふらふらしてると、本棚のなかに日本のマンガが並んでいる一帯がありました（笑）なんか異文化のなかに自分が見慣れたものを見ると興奮しますねー。それに、私は一般の人よりは子供時代にマンガを買い集め、読み漁っていたので、「あああ、このマンガも翻訳があるんだーー」って感動が人一倍大きいです。結構どこでも日本のアニメ関連のものは見かけるのですが、「犬夜叉」はどこにでもある気がします。人気なんですねー。あの和装のコスチュームと犬耳が人気の秘密？確かに見た目にかわいいかも。私は途中までしか読んでないですけど。

2月初めまでの怒涛のような忙しさを乗り切って、今はどういうわけかアメリカにいます。先月末にカリフォルニアに行ってきました。研究のためと今はスタンフォードで勉強してる高校のときの友人Rさんに会うためと両方兼ねて。

Sigh... I don't know why I gain weight everytime I come to the States... It 's still only for a month... It remids me of the nightmare of last year... So here is a food reportage in California!

はー、というかなんでアメリカに来ると必ずと言っていいほど太るんでしょう。。。まだ一ヶ月なのに。。。去年の悪夢が蘇る。。。ｗというわけで（？）、食べ物ルポ、カリフォルニア編。

What I ate during my stay in California is:

-Itarian restaurant: Pizza which dough was quite thin and clispy and meatboll spaghetti. Usually, when I order pizza in Japan, it is too thick like a bread. i don't like it very much. The meatballs were about the size of baseballs. I was overwhelmed and didn't eat it. There were also some plates for meat and vegetable but I already forgot them.

-Subway: Sandwitch stores which exsist all over the States. During my stay for 6 days, I had brunch 4 times at Subway because they are fast, cheap, healthy and different tastes each time.

-Shabuway: Maybe only the place in the States which is a shabushabu restaurant. The Japanese name is "しゃぶ道." Both its naming and taste struck me. It was one of my greatest memory at Stanford. I just wondered if carots were for shabushabu while eating it.

-Boba Tea: Also known as bubble tea and pearl milk tea which have tapiocas. The one I had on the way from Shabuway was best :)

R-san shared foods from a cafeteria of Stanford with me. Well, friquent meals at restaurant are maybe the problem for me...?

カリフォルニア滞在していた五泊六日中に食べたものは以下。

◎イタリアンのレストラン：生地が薄くてパリパリのピザ（なんか、薄い方が断然好き！日本でピザを注文したりすると普通厚い生地のやつだけど、あれはピザっていうよりパン食べてるってかんじで苦手。すぐお腹いっぱいになるし）、野球ボールくらいのミートボールのスパゲッティ（ミートボールに圧倒されて食べなかった、笑）、ほかにも肉のプレートとか野菜のプレートとかあったけどなにかすでに忘れた。。。

◎Subway：アメリカに*どこにでも*あるサンドイッチ屋さん。その場でパンとか具財を選んで作ってもらう。６日間の滞在中、４日間のブランチはSubwayで済ませる。早い、安い、選べるから同じ味を食べなくていい、そこそこにヘルシー等の理由によって。

◎Shabuway：笑。たぶんアメリカにはここしかないしゃぶしゃぶ屋さん。日本語表記は「しゃぶ道」。ネーミングセンスとともに味も私のツボ。スタンフォードの重要な記憶の一つに刻まれることになる。っていうか、しゃぶしゃぶににんじんって入るものだったっけ？と疑問に思いつつもぽりぽり食べる。

◎Boba Tea：別名をBubble Tea、Pearl Milk Tea。あのタピオカが入ってるやつ。Shabuwayの帰りに飲んだやつが今までのボバティーのなかでもいちばん☆

先週、天神エルガーラ・ホールへ、チャリティーコンサートに行きました。先生が行けなくなったのでチケットを譲ってもらって、行くことに。中井恒仁さんと武田美和子さんという、夫婦のピアノデュオでした。

The concert started with their duo on a piano, and solos for each of them and their duo again on two pianos followed. Chopin's "Fantaisie-Impromptu" which played by Ms. Takeda for her solo was one of my favorite in the pieces of piano. Tchaikovski's "Waltz of the Flowers" played by two pianos and the decorated Chikagai in Tenjin made me feel Christmassy :)

一台のピアノでの連弾に始まり、それぞれのソロ、二台ピアノと続きました。武田さんがソロで弾いてたショパンの『幻想即興曲』は、ピアノ曲のなかでは好きです。ピアノ二台の連弾でチャイコフスキーの『花のワルツ』を聴いて、飾り付けられた天神の地下街を歩いて、ついでにクリスマス気分も盛り上がりました☆

友達が勧めてくれた映画。
とある日系アメリカ人のドキュメンタリーで、彼の強制収容と広島原爆の記憶、９．１１テロがリンクしていて、過去と現在がぐっと引き寄せられた感じにぞくっとしました。

In the twilight of the morning, I went aboard a train of JR and arrived Nagasaki around 8:30 in the morning. I took TOEFL in quite a while... With a feeling of freedom, I decided to go sightseeing in Nagasaki. Since the test center was near Oura Catholic Church and Glover Garden, I visited there.

朝、薄暗い中家を出発してＪＲに乗り込み、長崎に着いたのは朝の八時半だった。久しぶりのＴＯＥＦＬです・・・。終わったあとの開放感に満ち溢れながら、長崎をちょっと観光していくことにしました。試験会場が近かったので、大浦天主堂とグラバー園に行ってみました。

Since I used the screen door instead of my windows while I slept, I woke up early in the morning because it was cold. When I realized, an autumn breeze started to blow these days. Finally, it's the time to say good-bye to hot and sticky summer in Fukuoka. I took the picture of the sky in this evening.

窓を網戸にして寝ていたら、朝方寒くて目が覚めた。気づけば秋の風が吹いている今日この頃。漸く、蒸し暑い福岡の夏ともお別れです。写真は今日の夕方の空。

Since it is September now, we had a special tea ceremony called Hanayose for this time. Though my sister did Hanayose last year, it was first time for me. There are several vases on the wall in the tea room, and then the costomers put flowers in a vase in turn. My teacher prepared the flowers which were in bloom in her garden, and we chose and decorated them by each preference. I rather enjoyed it:)

Last week we had Asaja, morning tea ceremony. It started at 7:30am and lasted for 4 hours. The ceremony went with a meal, weak tea and then strong tea. The food was all homemade by my teacher and everything including soup and dessert was delicious.

先週は朝茶でした。朝七時半からお茶会が始まって、４時間くらいじっくりかけて、お食事、薄茶、濃茶と会は進みます。私の先生はお料理は全て手作りで、汁物からデザートまでどれも絶品！

I think tea ceremony is an ultimate art of “style.” Each motion has a rule and it’s an art how much you can achieve to imitate completely the traditional “style.” It looks different from the arts which demand creativity like drawings and music. Though it might sound inconsistent, it’s impossible to complete to fit the “style.” To be exact, while you fit the “style,” it accomplishes with your own “style” like smoothness and gracefulness.

茶道って「型」の芸術の極みです。細かい動作の一つ一つまで決まっていて、如何に伝統の「型」に極限まで近づくかの芸術だと思います。絵とか音楽とか、その人の創造性を求められる芸術とは一見異端な感じがします。矛盾するようですが、その「型」に完全に適合するのって不可能です。正確には、その「型」に適合しつつも、微妙な動作にその人だけにできるなめらかさとか、しなやかさとかが出て、完成していくものです。

During this Tsukuba & Tokyo trip, I had three things which I wanted to do: collecting materials for my graduation thesis, meeting T, and meeting my friends from my high school and my cousin. For an excuse that I didn’t go to Tokyo only for playing with friends, I went to libraries in the daytime to collect materials...

帰ってきてから二週間もたってしまった。今回の筑波＆東京一人旅、目的は三つ。１．卒論の史料集め。２．Ｔに会うこと。３．高校時代の友人たちといとこに会うこと。１は遊びにだけ来たんじゃないぞと心の中で言い訳しようと、昼間は図書館に通って史料集めをしました（笑）。

Tokyo… Last time I set foot here was the school trip when I was in high school. At that time, I didn’t go around by myself but with a person who knew the route, so I wasn’t afraid much the super complicated train route map. But this time I felt like I was searching transferring guide all the time…

東京・・・前回まともにここの地を踏んだのは高校のころの研修旅行。あのときは少ししか自分の足で歩かなかったので（しかも人が一緒だったので）それほどの恐れはなかったけど、電車の路線図ありえない！！！と、目眩を起こしそうでした。毎日乗り換え案内を検索していた気が。

I went to the fireworks near Sumida River. Even though we were involved in waves of people, the fireworks were nice. But I was exhausted from the crowd in Tokyo. I met T in Tsukuba where nothing was there, so I felt relieved!!

アノ隅田川の花火も観に行きました。人の波に流されながらも、花火はやっぱり綺麗☆でも東京は本当に人が多くて疲れた…。Ｔとあったのは筑波だったので、何もなくて（笑）気が楽でした。

I met people who are very far away or haven’t seen for a while during this Tokyo trip. In the sense of meeting people, that week was great=)

福岡は昨日まで台風に吹かれていたので、どうなることかと思いましたが、ラッキーにも台風は過ぎ去り、無事追い山は行われました。この博多の一大行事、22年間福岡に住んでいながら、実際に観に行ったのは今回が初めてです。というのも、始まるのが早朝５時、そのために３時に目覚まし時計をセットしました。

I'm helping an exchange student from China for the summer cource at my college. Today, I went to see the festival with her.

中国からうちの大学に６週間のサマーコースで来ている女の子のチューターをしています。今日はその子と一緒に観に行きました。

At this early in the morning, such a bunch of people get up just to see the Omikoshi. That made the feeling over the festival run high. Omikoshi is "portable shirine" in English but I guess people cheer for Hakata rather than worship the god.

Since my friend visited Fukuoka, I decided to go to Dazaifu Tenmangu, which is the shrine dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, and Kyushu National Museum with her. I visited the shrine after an interval of one year and the museum for the first time. We two enjoyed them fully. There are lots of Japanese style gift shops and confectioneries on the both sides of the street towards the shrine. I’ve always loved them!

福岡に遊びに来てくれた友人とともに、菅原道真が祭られる太宰府天満宮と九州国立博物館に足を運ぶことにした。一年ぶりの天満宮と今回始めての博物館。二人で満喫してきました。天満宮へと続く参道の両脇に立ち並ぶ和風の小物屋さんや食べ物屋さん。これは昔から大好き！



There are so long escalator and light-tunnel between Tenmangu and Kyu-haku. When we were looking at a section for Asian traditional culture, called “Ajippa” in the museum, a friendly old curator talked to us and explained the exhibitions a lot. On our way back, we found the green tea-flavored soft ice cream. While eating it, we talked a lot leisurely.

天満宮から九博までは専用の長ーいエスカレーターと光トンネルで繋がっています。
博物館の中の「あじっぱ」なるアジアの伝統文化に親しもうという趣旨のコーナーで展示品を眺めていたら、気さくな係りのおじいさんに話しかけられ、たっぷり説明を受けることになる（笑）帰り道に抹茶ソフトクリームを見つけて二人で食べながら、ゆっくりおしゃべりしました。

She is going back to the US next week. She majored in violin at college and told me that she has to practice for 6 hours a day for auditions next year when she gets back. Though I was disappointed with the gap between the ideal and the reality, I felt the half-day trip with her made me go forward.
